Student Leadership

The Buckley Program's day to day operations are overseen by its student leadership, with guidance and oversight from both the board of directors and the faculty board of advisors. From time to time, Buckley student fellows may assist the student leadership in their tasks.

Rich Lizardo '15
President

Rich is a native of the liberal—yet ever sunny—Los Angeles. As a junior, he majors in History at Yale University and does what he can to contribute to the conservative cause on campus. Aside from the Buckley Program, he has served as Floor Leader of the Right for the Yale Political Union, he is an Executive Council Leader of AEI on Campus, and he is an Associate Editor of Light & Truth. In the past, he has interned for Christopher Shays' senate campaign and for The American Spectator. He loves swing music, drives along the Pacific Coast Highway, and burgers from In-N-Out, of course.

Mark DiPlacido '15
Vice President

Mark was born and raised in Erie, Pennsylvania where he attended McDowell High School. He is currently a junior at Yale and majors in History. A lifelong Catholic and conservative, he continues to defend and advance these causes when he can. Last year, Mark served as the Chairman of the Party of the Right and Director of Development for the Yale Political Union. Outside of school, Mark enjoys watching David Lynch films, taking in the news, and spending time with his family and friends.

Carolyn Hansen '16

Carolyn is a sophomore majoring in the Humanities. Though born and raised in the warm city of San Diego, California, she is a proud member of Yale's Nordic Ski Team. Last summer, she worked as an intern for a federal judge, and she has also served as the Chief Whip of the Conservative Party in the Yale Political Union. In her spare time, Carolyn enjoys reading theology, surfing, and spending time with her family.

Now, he is a freshman in Silliman College and is currently making it through Yale's Directed Studies Program. Josh plans to study Political Science and Economics, and he also has a deep passion for Russian language and studying the modern Russian state. He also currently serves as President of the Sir Thomas More Lecture Series. In his spare time, Josh enjoys working out and staying up-to-date on politics.

Zach Young '17

Zach was born and raised in Hamilton County, Ohio—the swing county in the swing state. He spent two summers working for Senator Rob Portman, and enjoys an overabundance of Reds baseball and Graeter's ice cream. At school, Zach plans to double-major in Economics and History. He also writes for The Politic and competes interscholastically on Yale's debate team. A proud resident of Silliman College, Zach is also fond of morning runs and 70s music. He is thrilled to be a part of the Buckley team and excited about improving publicity efforts for the Program's events and opportunities.

Dimitri Halikias '16
Operations Director

Dimitri is a sophomore Ethics, Politics, and Economics major from outside of Washington, D.C. A conservative traditionalist, Dimitri is interested in the history of political thought and particularly enjoys reading the likes of Hobbes, Locke, and Burke. Ever since his high school exposure to Milton Friedman, he also has a strong interest in contemporary public policy issues. Last summer, he received a Buckley Fellowship to intern at the National Review for eight weeks. He is also a member of the Yale Political Union, currently serving as the Secretary of the Conservative Party. In his spare time, Dimitri enjoys watching Duck Dynasty on TV and following baseball's greatest team, the Baltimore Orioles.

Morgan Smiley '17

Morgan is also currently studying the Chinese language and is very interested in Chinese politics and culture. Back in her hometown of Long Island, New York, Morgan was the President of her high school's Lincoln-Douglas Debate Team and Captain of the Ethics Bowl Team. In her spare time, Morgan loves singing, enjoying her favorite food, ice cream, and promoting the cause of childhood obesity prevention (of course not while eating ice cream).

Matt Ribeiro '15
Priscilla Buckley Project Director

Matt is a conservative hailing from Seymour, Connecticut, a small town about thirty minutes from Yale. He is an active member of both the Yale College Republicans and the Tory Party of the YPU, is a member of the Yale Rifle Team, and is very involved in jobs and activities within Pierson College and at St. Thomas More. In his limited spare time, he enjoys hanging out with his suitemates, playing the clarinet, and reading. His academic pursuits lie in the biological sciences, and he is conducting research on viruses in the Turner lab.

Akash Salam '17
Deputy Priscilla Buckley Project Director

Raised in a small town in the middle of nowhere in California, Akash is a freshman in Morse College, studying anything related to history, politics, and economics. Outside of the Buckley Program, he is a staff reporter for the Yale Daily News, the International Chair for Yale Rotaract, the Chair for the Roosevelt Institution, and a researcher in the Yale Student Investment Group, among other things. He has worked to improve educational attainment in Bangladesh and has researched cytomegaloviruses in the Stanford School of Medicine. When not working or studying, Akash enjoys reading The Economist or any great dystopian novel, throwing sarcasm to anyone who bothers to listen, and cherishing all of Taylor Swift's lovely songs, especially "Love Story."
